Frequently Asked Questions

What does this tool consider a 'symbol'?

By default, any character that is NOT a letter (A-Z) or whitespace is treated as a symbol. This includes punctuation (!, ?, .), brackets ([], {}), currency signs ($, €), and math operators (+, -).

Can I include numbers in the sort?

Yes! Toggle the 'Include Numbers' option to treat digits (0-9) as symbols. Otherwise, they are filtered out along with the letters.

How does 'Unique Only' work?

When 'Unique Only' is enabled, the tool removes all duplicates. If you have fifty exclamation marks in your text, the result will show just one '!'.

Can I shuffle the symbols?

Yes, we now support Random Sorting (Shuffle) as well as Reverse Order, in addition to the standard code-point sorting.

What is this tool used for?

It's used for code analysis (finding all unique operators), data cleaning (spotting illegal characters), password complexity checks, or stylometric analysis (counting punctuation usage).

Is emojis supported?

Yes! Emojis are considered non-alphanumeric and will be preserved and sorted by the tool.

Can I upload a code file?

Absolutely. You can upload .js, .py, .json, or .txt files to instantly extract symbols from your codebase.

Is my data secure?

Yes. All processing is done locally in your browser using JavaScript. No text is ever sent to a server.

How are symbols sorted by default?

By default, they are sorted by their Unicode code point value (e.g., ASCII order for standard punctuation).

Can I change the output format?

Yes, you can choose to separate the extracted symbols with spaces, commas, new lines, or have them all joined together.
