The Science of Active Tracking

Why counting your hours is the first step towards mastering your grades.

What gets measured, gets managed.

It's a famous management quote, but it applies perfectly to education. Many students feel like they study all day, but when they actually track their focused time, it might calculate to only 1 or 2 hours.

The Study Session Tracker eliminates this "effort illusion" by providing an objective record of your work. It forces you to be honest with yourself about how much time you are actually dedicating to learning versus how much time is spent on distractions.

  • Identify Peak Hours: Discover when you are most productive during the day.
  • Balance Your Subjects: Ensure you aren't neglecting difficult topics in favor of easy ones.
  • Build Discipline: The act of starting the timer becomes a ritual that signals your brain it's time to focus.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the 'Focus Presets'?

We offer three modes: Pomodoro (25m) for short bursts of focus, Deep Work (50m) for intensive study blocks, and Free Flow for untimed sessions. These presets help you structure your study time effectively.

Where is my study data saved?

Your data is securely saved in your browser's LocalStorage. We do not store any of your data on our servers, ensuring complete privacy and offline accessibility.

How do I use the Daily Goal feature?

Click the 'Edit' button in the Daily Goal widget (top right). Enter your target number of hours for the day. The progress bar will automatically update as you track sessions.

Can I track different subjects separately?

Yes! Before starting the timer, enter the name of the subject (e.g., 'Mathematics' or 'History'). The tracker saves this tag with your session, allowing you to review how much time you dedicated to each topic.

Is this tool free?

Yes, this Study Session Tracker is 100% free to use. There are no hidden costs, subscriptions, or login requirements.

Can I export my data to Excel?

Absolutely. Click the 'Export CSV' button in the header to download a detailed spreadsheet of all your sessions, including dates, durations, and notes.

Does the timer work if I switch tabs?

Yes, the timer continues to run in the background even if you switch tabs or minimize the window, ensuring accurate tracking of your entire session.

How do edit or delete a wrong entry?

In the 'Session History' list, simply click the trash icon next to any session you wish to remove. Currently, editing past sessions is not supported to ensure data integrity, but you can delete and re-add if necessary.

What happens if I close my browser?

Your history and settings persist even after you close the browser. However, a currently running timer will stop. It is recommended to pause or finish your session before closing the window.

Can I use this on my mobile phone?

Yes, the Study Session Tracker is fully responsive and works perfectly on smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers.

Will clearing my cache delete my data?

Yes, since data is stored in LocalStorage, clearing your browser's cache or site data will remove your history. We recommend regularly exporting your data as a CSV backup.
