What is the Social Media Image Editor?
The Social Media Image Editor is a free, browser-based tool designed specifically for content creators, marketers, and social media managers who need to quickly prepare images for multiple platforms. Unlike complex desktop software like Photoshop, our editor focuses on the essential tasks: cropping to exact platform dimensions, applying professional filters, adding text overlays, and exporting in the right format.
Every social platform has different size requirements—Instagram prefers 4:5 portraits, YouTube needs 16:9 thumbnails, LinkedIn uses extremely wide 4:1 covers. Manually calculating and cropping to these dimensions is tedious and error-prone. Our one-click presets eliminate guesswork by automatically locking your crop to the exact aspect ratio required.
Best of all, everything runs locally in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy and instant processing speeds.

Pro Tips for Better Visuals
- Maximize Feed Space: Use the "Portrait 4:5" crop for Instagram posts. It takes up more vertical space on mobile screens than a square crop, grabbing more attention.
- Readable Text: When adding captions, use a contrasting color (White text with Black shadow/stroke) to ensure it's readable against any background.
- Optimize for Speed: Export as "WebP" at 80-85% quality. This format is ~30% smaller than JPG without visible quality loss, making your site load faster.
- Branding: Add your social handle (e.g., @MyBrand) as a watermark in the corner of every image to prevent theft and build recognition.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the correct image sizes for Instagram in 2024?
Instagram supports several formats: Square posts at 1080×1080 (1:1), Portrait posts at 1080×1350 (4:5) which get more screen space in feeds, Landscape at 1080×566 (1.91:1), Stories and Reels at 1080×1920 (9:16). Our editor has one-click presets for all these dimensions, automatically locking the crop to the exact aspect ratio.
What size should YouTube thumbnails be?
YouTube recommends thumbnails at 1280×720 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The minimum width is 640 pixels. File size should be under 2MB. Our YouTube Thumbnail preset automatically sets the correct 16:9 ratio, and you can export as JPG for optimal file size.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using HTML5 Canvas technology. Your images never leave your device—they are not uploaded, stored, or processed on any server. This means complete privacy and faster processing since there is no network transfer.
What is the best format to export social media images?
For photographs and complex images, use JPG at 85-90% quality for the best balance of quality and file size. For graphics with text, logos, or transparency, use PNG (lossless). WebP offers the smallest file sizes with good quality and is supported by all modern browsers and social platforms.
Can I add text to my images?
Yes. Our Text Overlay feature lets you add custom text with 5 font options (Sans-serif, Serif, Monospace, Display, Handwritten), custom colors, adjustable size (16-120px), and positioning (top, center, bottom). You can also enable text stroke/outline for better visibility on any background.
How do I add a watermark to my photos?
In the Text tab, scroll down to the Watermark section. Enter your text (like @yourhandle or your website), and adjust the opacity slider (10-100%). The watermark appears in the bottom-right corner of your exported image. This helps protect your content and promote your brand.
What filters are available?
We offer 10 professional filters: Normal (no filter), Grayscale, Sepia, Vintage (warm retro look), Cool (blue tones), Warm (orange tones), Dramatic (high contrast), Fade (soft muted look), B&W High Contrast, and Vivid (saturated colors). Filters are applied non-destructively and can be changed at any time.
What social media platforms are supported?
Our presets cover all major platforms: Instagram (Square, Portrait, Story), YouTube (Thumbnail), Facebook (Cover), Twitter/X (Post), LinkedIn (Cover), Pinterest (Pin), TikTok (Cover), and WhatsApp (Status). You can also use Free mode to crop to any custom aspect ratio.
Does this editor reduce image quality?
We use high-fidelity canvas rendering with device pixel ratio support for sharp exports on Retina displays. For PNG exports, quality is lossless. For JPG and WebP, you control the quality slider (60-100%). At 90%+ quality, compression artifacts are virtually invisible.
Can I flip or rotate my images?
Yes. In the Presets tab under Transform, you can Rotate Left or Right (90 degrees at a time), Flip Horizontally (mirror), or Flip Vertically. These transformations are applied to the preview in real-time and included in your final export.
